The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) has announced that the long-standing issues surrounding the Maitama Substation have finally been resolved, following weeks of disruption caused by invasion and encroachment on the facility.
In a statement released by the company, AEDC confirmed that sustained engagements and the intervention of key stakeholders paved the way for repair works to begin. “Despite the unforeseen and exceptionally challenging circumstances surrounding the incident, a resolution has been reached, paving the way for the commencement of repair works and the restoration of electricity supply to the affected communities,” the management said.
AEDC expressed gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, for their “swift intervention, invaluable support and leadership in facilitating the resolution of this matter.”
The company noted that their timely involvement was instrumental in achieving a positive outcome.
Technical teams have now mobilised to the site and commenced reinstatement and restoration of the damaged electricity infrastructure. AEDC assured residents that every effort is being made to complete the works safely and restore supply in the shortest possible time.
The company also acknowledged the patience and understanding of customers in Maitama and surrounding areas during the outage. “We sincerely thank our customers for their patience, understanding and unwavering support throughout this difficult period. We remain committed to safeguarding critical electricity infrastructure and delivering safe, reliable and sustainable power supply to all our customers,” the statement added.
The resolution marks a significant step toward stabilising electricity supply in one of Abuja’s key districts, with AEDC pledging continued vigilance to protect vital installations from future disruptions.
