Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced the passing of his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi.
According to a statement released by the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, Mrs. Amaechi died on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 89.
The statement described the late matriarch as a deeply respected mother whose life was marked by love, peace, and selfless devotion to her family.
She was praised for being the pillar that kept the family united and for her enduring legacy of compassion and harmony.
Her death has drawn condolences from family members, friends, political associates, and well-wishers, who have continued to sympathise with Amaechi and his family over the loss.
The statement said she was a community women’s leader and a Christian leader with firm and resolute faith in God.
The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the beloved mother of Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Vice Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi, who departed peacefully on Thursday, 16th July, 2026. She was 89.
“Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace, and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader whose faith in God was firm and resolute.
“She was loved and highly respected in her community and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her and beyond”.
The statement further said Amaechi and the entire family are grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love shown to them.
The family, while appreciating the continued thoughts and prayers of friends, supporters, and well-wishers, noted that details regarding the funeral arrangements would be shared with the public in due course.
