Premier League club Newcastle United have completed the signing of French midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco on a five-year contract, with both clubs confirming the transfer on Friday.
The deal is reportedly worth €35 million (about $40 million), with Monaco also securing a sell-on clause that entitles the Ligue 1 side to a percentage of any future transfer involving the 20-year-old.
Bamba joins Newcastle as one of the club’s key summer signings, bringing youthful energy and midfield versatility as the Magpies strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
“I was very excited when I heard Newcastle were interested in signing me,” said Bamba, who becomes the club’s fourth signing this summer.
“I know about the history of the club and I’ve visited the stadium already, which is amazing. I can’t wait to be on the pitch there and hope to have some great times with the fans.
“I’m excited to test myself in a new league, the biggest league in the world. I learned a lot last season and now I feel ready for this new opportunity. I will give my all for this club.”
Bamba joined Monaco in 2021 but has played just 25 matches 18 in Ligue 1, two in the French Cup and five in the Champions League. The Riviera outfit finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe welcomed the arrival of “another exciting, young signing who we’re really looking forward to working with”.
“Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with huge potential for growth,” said Howe.
“His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.”
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season.
