The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has uploaded Prince Laja Adeoye as its governorship candidate for Lagos State on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, as the opposition party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party also submitted the name of Coker Oluwatobi Adeyemi Grace as Adeoye’s running mate for the February 6, 2027 governorship election.
Adeoye is expected to square off against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, in the governorship poll.
The development comes as the APM intensifies grassroots mobilisation across Lagos and other parts of the country to challenge the ruling APC in next year’s elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adeoye said Nigerians were seeking a change in political leadership at both the national and state levels.
“Nigerians are yearning for a new beginning, a decisive change of government at the centre, in Lagos State, and across the federation, to end the continued mis-governance of the APC. The APM is the credible alternative Nigerians need now,” he said.
The party had also uploaded Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor, as its presidential candidate for the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
The submission of its candidates coincides with an expansion of the party’s grassroots campaign in Lagos, where it says it is strengthening its structures ahead of the elections.
At a recent strategic meeting, the Lagos State Forum of Local Government Chairmen resolved to intensify membership recruitment and voter mobilisation across the state’s 20 local government areas, 37 local council development areas (LCDAs), wards and polling units.
In a communiqué signed by the forum’s chairman, Olanrewaju Ayinde, the party said it was committed to building a grassroots movement capable of securing victory in 2027.
“The Forum reaffirms its commitment to aggressive membership recruitment, voter mobilization, and the consolidation of party structures across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State down to every single ward and polling unit,” the communiqué stated.
The forum also expressed confidence in Adeoye’s candidacy, describing him as a credible alternative for Lagos, and commended his efforts in strengthening the party’s presence in the state.
It further called on Lagos residents seeking an alternative political platform to join the APM. It appealed to other opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), to work with the party to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections.
The APM said it remained focused on expanding its support base and positioning itself as an alternative platform for governance in Lagos and across Nigeria.
