Domestic equities open week on negative note, shed N76bn


Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange NGX on Monday opened week in negative note, depreciating by N76 billion as bears dominated the trading activities during the day

Market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.05 per cent to N159.511 trillion from N159.587 trillion it closed on Friday.

The NGX All Share Index also declined by 118.66 basis point to 247238.74 points from 247357.40 points traded the previous day.

The negative performance recorded during the day was supported by losses in the shares of TransPower, Stanbic IBTC, Access Holdings Company and 29 other listed companies.

The market breath was negative  with 27 advancers against 32 decliners, bringing the year to date return lower to 58.88 per cent 

An analysis of the investment during the day showed that 

CNIF led gainers table with 9.95 per cent to close at N140.30 per unit, Thomas Wyatt followed with a gain of 9.92 per cent to close at N3.99 per unit, VFD group increased by 9.56 per cent to close at N11.70 per share, Chams Plc gained 8.44 per cent to close at N4.88 per unit, Lasaco Insurance up by 7.69 per cent to close at N1.98 per share.

On the contrary,

TransPower and SUNU insurance led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N219.60 and N3.24 per unit respectively, international Breweries trailed with a loss of 9.85 per cent to close at N12.35 per share, Neimeth International pharmaceutical fell by 9.78 per cent to close at N8.30 per unit, FTG Insurance dropped by 9.68 per cent to close at N2.52 per unit, AustinLaz dipped by 9.64 per cent to close at N3.28 per unit.

Volume of trades increased by 23.41 million, representing 3.81 per cent as investors traded 637.960 million against 614.550 million recorded the previous day. Valued of transactions up by 42.39 per cent to settle at N57.20 billion in 71240 deals.

Transactions in the shares Access Holdings Company led market activities with 47.574 million shares valued at N1.368 billion, FCMB followed with account of 40.333 million shares cost N478.246 million, 

FirstHoldco traded 34.197 million shares worth N4.247 billion,  Champion Breweries exchanged 33.152 million shares valued at N372.208 million,  Zenith Bank traded 25.441 million shares cost N3.228 billion .
