The Edo state government has sealed a partnership deal with United States-based investors to establish an electric tricycle manufacturing and assembly plant as part of efforts to deepen industrialisation, create jobs and advance clean energy transportation in the State.
The state Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbo, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City on Friday said the investment was being driven through collaborations with US-based Moseri Holding Limited, JBV Manufacturing and a tricycle manufacturing firm.
Usenbo noted that the partnership would lead to the establishment of an e-mobility company in Edo to produce electric tricycles locally for the Nigerian market, a development he noted would strengthen the state’s position as an emerging centre for renewable energy technology and vehicle manufacturing.
He said the initiative was in line with the economic vision of Governor Monday Okpebholo to attract strategic investments, expand the state’s industrial base and create sustainable employment through technology-driven enterprises.
Domestic production of electric tricycles, according to the commissioner, would reduce the country’s dependence on imported vehicles, lower production and logistics costs, and encourage the growth of Nigeria’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
He said beyond making electric tricycles more affordable, the project would generate employment opportunities for residents in vehicle assembly, maintenance, technical support, after-sales services, warranty operations and spare parts distribution.
“The advantage of this initiative is that electric tricycles will become more affordable for our people.
“More importantly, Edo residents will benefit from employment in assembly, maintenance, after-sales services and warranty support, creating a sustainable value chain for the state’s economy,” he said.
