Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the disengagement of the pilot (driver) and co-pilot (conductor) of Bus 8 in the Abia Green Shuttle fleet after they were allegedly caught extorting passengers and diverting government revenue.
The Governor announced the decision during the July edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the state’s monthly media interaction held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia.
The dismissal follows a viral video circulated on social media last week, which allegedly showed the two transport officials collecting cash fares directly from passengers instead of using the state’s approved electronic card payment system. According to the allegations, the cash collected was diverted for personal use.
Responding to questions during the programme, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct in public service, stressing that any official found compromising government policies or public trust would face appropriate sanctions.

The Governor also addressed complaints about overcrowding on the Abia Green Shuttle buses, revealing that the state government has installed electronic surveillance cameras across the fleet. He explained that the cameras are designed to monitor the activities of drivers, conductors, and passengers, enhance transparency, improve accountability, and ensure efficient service delivery.
Governor Otti assured residents that the electronic monitoring system would strengthen oversight within the state’s mass transit programme and help prevent a recurrence of revenue leakages and other forms of misconduct as the transport initiative continues to expand.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and quality public service for the benefit of Abia residents.
