The Air Cargo Terminal at the Aminu Kano International Airport has reached final stages of construction with 95 percent of the project completed and might be commissioned soon.
This was revealed to newsmen in Kano recently when the Nigeria Shippers’ Council Airfreight Stakeholders Forum(AAF), Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, along with the Regional General Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Musa Okiriri toured the facility.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the Regional General Manager, the Head of Operations, at the airport, Faruk Isa Fage, confirmed that with everything in place in the facility, the export community in and around Kano should prepare to commence serious business.
“It is not yet commissioned, but the building has been completed, almost everything is there 95 percent completed
“This will affect export and import tremendously in boosting especially perishable cargo export from Kano, like food stock, tomatoes, pepper, and all forms of perishable cargo, that normally would not have been possible to carry through the airport due to lack of facilities to handle them.
“Now we have facilities within this terminal that will handle tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of these products. It will be commissioned soon” he stated.
Also speaking to journalists, the president of the Airfreight Stakeholders Forum, Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Miftahu Ya’u, called for partnership between the government and the private sectors to properly run the facility and achieve the best of it.
“With this kind of international Cargo Terminal, that will ensure compliance with international best practices required in every part of the world.
“As a stakeholders forum that is supervised and registered by the Nigeria Shippers’ Council, in an effort to bring together both government and private sectors to make sure the operations are eased and the issues of compliance is being met up with within a short period of time” he added.
As part of the tour were the Assistant Director, Operations, Nigeria Shippers’ Council Muhammad Audu and Hajiya Raliya Usman Baba the Principal Operations Officer.
The Regional General Manager announced that the facility will be commissioned as soon as the everything thing is completed, assuring that it will not take very long.
