For over 15 years, residents of Anfeyin Olokuta community in Ilorin, Kwara State, struggled with severe water scarcity. The lack of potable water disrupted daily life, caused children to get to school late due to long hours spent fetching water, and exposed residents to insults and humiliation from neighbouring communities.
Their long-standing hardship, however, has now been alleviated, through the LG Electronics, which recently provided a solar-powered borehole and a free mobile washing machine station as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative tagged Life’s Good Initiative.
The intervention has brought clean water and improved hygiene services to one of the most vulnerable communities in the state.
Abdulkadir Akewusola, Imam of the community, expressed deep gratitude: “We thank God and LG Company for the solar-powered borehole and the mobile washing machine. We have suffered from a lack of water for about 15 years, but with this kind of assistance, we now realise there is hope. Since LG gave us this facility, we have been greatly relieved, and we thank them immensely.
“The stress has reduced drastically. Even our children, who used to get to school late because of the water problem, now fetch water at their convenience and have their uniforms washed regularly.
“For water, we have no problem again; it serves us well. For laundry, residents now turn out in large numbers because we no longer wash clothes manually.
“A lady assigned to operate the machine has been doing excellent work and ensures everyone benefits. We thank LG and all the stakeholders who made this possible. May God uplift them.”
He recalled the hardship previously faced.
“Before now, we used to walk up to a mile to fetch water from other communities, and sometimes we were insulted for ‘reducing their ration.’ Some of us dug wells, but they only yielded water during the rainy season. During dry season, everything dried up. But now, we thank God.”
Falilat Ismail, another resident, shared similar relief: “We appreciate LG for this wonderful support. Before this, I spent nothing less than N2,000 on soap to wash my family’s clothes. The stress of searching for water and washing clothes has been eliminated. I have washed here countless times, free of charge. The operator has been very organised. Elderly people, youths, and students all benefit. We truly appreciate LG and pray that God continues to uplift them.”
Abdulkadir Oluwadamilola, the LG-employed service agent operating the facilities, explained:
“I wash and dry their clothes without stress. I was trained to operate the machines and other facilities, and work has been smooth. LG employed me and provided everything needed – soap, washing bowls, clothe baskets, and more. I resume by 8 a.m. and close by 6 p.m everyday. I ensure everyone is attended to. When someone brings excess clothes, I reduce them at first to allow others to benefit, then wash the remaining later. It has been favourable for everyone.”
The newly installed solar-powered borehole is expected to serve thousands of residents year-round, providing safe, reliable water. LG’s mobile washing machine station will offer free laundry services to all residents, promoting hygiene and easing daily burdens.

The combination of free laundry services and gadget maintenance represents a holistic approach to well-being, one that provides comfort, supports hygiene, and reduces the spread of waterborne diseases, in line with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
