The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave, which is scheduled to begin on August 10.
The approval followed the presentation of a letter from the governor during Thursday’s plenary session.
In the letter, Makinde informed lawmakers that Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal would oversee the administration of the state throughout his absence.
The letter was read before the House by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in place of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor’s leave takes effect from Aug. 10 to Sept. 11., he will officially resume office on Sept. 14.
The lawmakers unanimously granted the request while expressing confidence in the seamless continuity of governance in the state under the deputy governor.
The lawmakers tasked Lawal to oversee the day-to-day administration of the state, ensuring that government activities continue uninterrupted until Gov. Makinde resumes duty.

Speaking after the approval, Fadeyi wished the governor a peaceful and refreshing vacation.
The deputy speaker said that the legislative remained committed to sustaining cordial relations with the executive arm in the interest of the people of Oyo State.
Hr also expressed confidence in the capacity of the deputy governor to provide effective leadership during the period as evident in the past.
Fadeyi described the state’s governance structure as stable and capable of guaranteeing continuity in policy implementation.
