Tanko Habila, father of the late Miss Mary Habila, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), calling for the immediate release of his daughter’s remains to enable the family to give her a proper burial.
Habila, alongside his wife, other family members, and their legal representatives, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Speaking to journalists after filing the petition, the grieving father urged the police authorities to release the body without further delay, stressing that the family wants to lay their daughter to rest while investigations continue.
He appealed for justice and a transparent handling of the case.
The senior Habila, who spoke after the family lawyer, expressed sadness that almost two weeks after his daughter’s demise, the Ebonyi State Police Command had refused to release her body for burial.
According to him, the family was not interested in an autopsy.
He said: “As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried.”
