Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, has advised Nigerian youths to shun sports betting, warning that gambling is not a reliable path to financial success.
Delivering a sermon during a church service on Sunday, the renowned cleric urged young people to abandon the pursuit of quick wealth through betting and instead embrace hard work, discipline and patience as the true foundations of lasting prosperity.
Addressing the congregation, Oyedepo described betting as a dangerous distraction capable of robbing young people of their purpose and future.
“Young people, Naija Bet is not the way to financial fortune. Stop wasting your destiny. Stop wasting your destiny. Stop wasting your destiny. I have never been once deceived. Stop!” he declared.
The bishop further encouraged youths not to become discouraged when success seems delayed, stressing that meaningful achievements often require time, consistency and perseverance.
“Things may be slow, but it is sure,” he added.

To emphasize the value of gratitude and faithfulness, Oyedepo shared a personal story about the woman who introduced him to Christianity when he was 15 years old.
According to him, he rewarded her decades later by presenting her with a car on his 60th birthday, which was delivered to her home in the United States.
“My mother of faith led me to Christ at 15. When I turned 60, I got her a car that they took to her place in the U.S., she wept. You had better wake up,” he said.
The message has since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians supporting the cleric’s call for youths to focus on productive ventures rather than relying on sports betting as a means of financial breakthrough.
His comments come amid growing concerns over the increasing popularity of betting among young Nigerians and repeated warnings from religious leaders and financial experts about its potential economic and social consequences.
