A search has been launched for a mum who disappeared while out for a swim on a beautiful island in the Caribbean.
Elizabeth Waddell, 44, was staying at the Grand Anse, a popular tourist destination in St. George, Grenada.
The US woman was traveling with a friend when she decided to go for a swim, but never returned.
After a few hours, her friend began to panic as Elizabeth did not have her phone with her. Amanda Romano-Harmon, another long-time friend of Elizabeth, told WRAL.
“She had her swimsuit on, and she went outside their Airbnb,” Amanda said.
“They had a pool that overlooked the bay. Liz was set up out there just sightseeing from the pool, and her friend was taking her online course.
“When she got through with her course, she looked up and she didn’t see Liz outside, so she went outside to walk around and see where she went, and she saw her towel down on the pier. So the only thing we can think is maybe she went for a swim.”
A missing persons report has been filed.
Elizabeth’s husband, Cailen, has pleaded for anyone with information to please come forward.
“Facebook Friends. My wife Liz is missing in Grenada,” he wrote in a post on the social media platform on July 24.
“If any of you have connections to the island – can you please share the following with your contacts there? Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday.
“I am on my way there now to help search.
“I expect nothing less than Liz’s safe return – so please send your love, light, thoughts, and prayers our way.”
Cailen and his daughter arrived in the country on Friday to help with the search.
“The police have been wonderful,” he told WRAL News.
“The investigation is ongoing. [The police] have been incredibly communicative and have done everything it seems like they could be doing to help find her.”
Amanda, the couple’s friend of 25 years, said both Cailen and his daughter have split up to divide and conquer.
The Royal Grenada Police force are in contact with fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline in their search for Elizabeth’s safe return.
