A tragic cosmetic surgery case has continued to spark conversations online after a 23-year-old university student, identified as Destiny Benjamin, reportedly died four days after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure at a private aesthetic clinic in Lagos, Nigeria.

While initial claims on social media suggested that she died during the operation, the clinic’s management has disputed those allegations, insisting that the procedure itself was successful.
Speaking to local media, the clinic’s founder and plastic surgeon, Dr. Ogbe Omoruyi, explained that the patient recovered well immediately after surgery and showed no signs of complications before her condition later changed.
He stated that Destiny was 23 years old, based on the information she provided during registration, dismissing earlier online reports that had claimed she was 20.
According to the surgeon, the young woman began experiencing breathing difficulties several days after the operation.
Medical staff reportedly placed her on oxygen to stabilize her condition before transferring her to Genesis Specialist Hospital in Ikeja, where she later passed away despite further medical attention.
The doctor maintained that the surgery had gone according to plan and said the clinic’s medical records showed that the patient was stable immediately after the procedure.
He added that the decision to transfer her to a higher-level medical facility was made once her condition required intensive care.
The heartbreaking incident has generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users expressing sympathy for the deceased’s family while also raising concerns about the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery among young people.
Medical experts have previously cautioned that although BBL procedures are increasingly common around the world, they carry potential risks, including blood clots, infections, breathing complications, and reactions to anesthesia.
