Popular Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has sparked reactions online after calling out men who mock others for having skincare routines. In a humorous video, Famakin insisted that taking care of one’s skin has nothing to do with sexuality and urged women to educate their partners on the importance of skincare.
Addressing women at the start of the video, Famakin urged them to pass a message to their boyfriends and husbands.
He said, “Tell your boyfriends to stop calling men that do skincare gay! Tell your s@ndpaper-f+ced boyfriends and men that men who do skincare are not gay!”
While applying sunscreen to his face, he showed off his complexion and challenged viewers who believe all sunscreens leave a visible white residue.
He asked, “Do you see any white cast? Do you see any white cast? No, you don’t. You’re always complaining, ‘Oh, my sunscreen leaves…’ You’re buying cheap sunscreen, sorry. Not to broke-shame you, you’re buying cheap sunscreen.”
Famakin also educated men on the difference between body soap and facial cleansers, stressing that the face requires special care.
According to him, “You don’t use the same soap you use on your body for your face! You use a face wash for your face, and you use soap for your body. Say it after me; ‘Face wash for your face, soap for your body.’”
He ended the video with another playful jab at men who refuse to adopt skincare routines.
He said, “If you like, don’t do skincare. Yes, your babe, she loves you. But when you are on top of her, she’s going to be imagining my smooth face and not your rough, dirty, handsome-but-rough s@ndpaper face!”
Famakin concluded by encouraging men to “use sunscreen and use face wash,” insisting there is nothing unmanly about looking after their skin.
