Videos shared on social media captured the survivor documenting her journey before takeoff and later showing the aftermath of the incident. In the clips, she thanked God for preserving her life as emergency responders attended to passengers following the aircraft’s runway overshoot.
Contrary to reports circulating on social media describing the incident as a plane crash, the aircraft did not crash. It skidded off the runway after landing at Benin Airport in what aviation experts describe as a runway excursion or runway overshoot. Authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated, while the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into the incident.
The videos have since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing relief that there were no fatalities and thanking God for the safe evacuation of everyone on board.
