A 23-year-old Zimbabwean woman has told a local court that she fled her marriage to a self-described polygamist because she could no longer cope with life in a household where her husband spent nights with multiple wives, saying the sounds coming from neighboring rooms became too much for her to endure.
According to court proceedings, the woman explained that she had entered the marriage after the man allegedly assured her that she would become his third wife. Watch D Video Here ➤
She also claimed he promised to purchase a farm for her, making the proposal appear attractive at the time.
However, after the wedding, she said she was shocked to discover that she was not the third wife as promised.
Instead, she was taken to a home where the man’s first wife lived and learned that she had actually become his seventh wife.
The woman told the court that adjusting to the family arrangement proved impossible.
Beyond the disappointment of what she described as broken promises, she said the daily realities of sharing one husband with several women became emotionally overwhelming.
She explained that each night her husband would move from one wife’s room to another according to his schedule. What troubled her most, she said, was hearing intimate sounds coming from the neighboring rooms.
“They knack so loudly, and the sound is annoying,” she reportedly told the court, adding that she eventually reached a point where she could no longer remain in the marriage.
The woman said she decided to leave the matrimonial home in search of peace, insisting that she had not anticipated such living conditions when she accepted the marriage proposal.
In response, the husband reportedly defended himself before the court, maintaining that he had done nothing wrong.
He argued that his marriage was conducted according to the customs and beliefs of his religious community and denied misleading his wife about the family arrangement.
