The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has renewed its prohibition on unruly wild graduation celebrations, warning students that anyone found engaging in disruptive activities or cult-related conduct will face disciplinary action.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Registrar, Chukwuka Icha, who expressed concern over the conduct of some students, particularly final-year students, after completing their examinations.
According to the registrar, the institution has observed a pattern of disorderly wild graduation celebrations that often include reckless driving, public displays involving flying of colours and other actions capable of disturbing peace and security within and around the university.

She reminded students that such activities remain prohibited under the university’s regulations and urged all graduating students to celebrate responsibly.
Icha stressed that the existing ban covers wild celebrations on campus, around the university gates and all forms of cult-related activities.
She warned that the university would take firm disciplinary measures against any student or group that violates the directive.
To ensure compliance, the university has directed the acting chief security officer to intensify surveillance and strictly enforce the ban across the campus and its surrounding areas.
The registrar also appealed to students, staff and other members of the university community to cooperate with the management by complying with the directive in the interest of maintaining a peaceful and secure learning environment.
