Letícia Cristina da Cruz Santos was told, hours after her baby Noah had been declared dead, that he was actually alive following an incredible discovery by a funeral worker
A mother who was told her baby had died was informed just hours later that in fact her son was actually alive. On June 15, Letícia Cristina da Cruz Santos had a son called Noah Gabriel da Cruz Santos in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Noah, who was one month premature, was later transferred to the Santa Casa hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He was waiting transfer to another hospital because he needed surgery when he suffered a cardiac and respiratory event.
In a statement following what was to happen, the hospital confirmed that CPR was immediately administered to Noah for 45 minutes. When all efforts to save his life proved unsuccessful, Noah was pronounced dead that afternoon.
The hospital further maintained that all proper protocols were adhered to throughout Noah’s time in their care, stating: “The Brazilian protocol for confirming death is recognised for its high standards of rigour and safety.”
Letícia, who witnessed the event, later took to social media to speak about what had happened while praising the hospital’s care of Noah during his lengthy stay there.
She said: “We are contemplating God’s greatness and admiring our little warrior, who continues to fight to get well. We fully believe in our miracle […] miracles can’t be explained; they must be experienced.
“Sometimes I feel like we’re dreaming, not just me; I was talking to my husband just a little while ago inside the hospital, looking at him [Noah] as he moved around, kicking his little legs with his eyes open.
“We’re just in awe. I actually witnessed the moment it happened, how the doctor reacted and how hard she fought to try to resuscitate him.”
Sadly, Noah was declared dead after attempts to save his life failed. However, hours later, funeral worker Regina Célia Paschoal discovered the infant moving inside the body bag in which he had been placed.
Speaking to EPTV, Regina, who has amassed 17 years of experience in her field, recalled the chilling moment: “I opened it, and the baby started moving even more; he was making a noise, as if trying to breathe.”
Mattheus Batagello, Regina’s colleague, corroborated her account, revealing that they initially questioned whether something else might be causing the movement: “It was a desperate moment, but also a relief, you know?”
He explained that he alerted fellow nurses to examine Noah after hearing “a sort of hiccupping sound”. Once it was confirmed that Noah was alive, he was immediately readmitted to the neonatal unit for intensive care to aid his recovery.
Meanwhile, Leticia also addressed the moment she found out her son was alive after previously saying that she and her husband spent roughly an hour with their son following his passing. She also recalled the extraordinary moment she learnt her boy was alive, as reported by G1.
She said: “When we arrived, we went back into the ICU, and they told us about our miracle. All I could do was say ‘Glory to God’ and weep.”
In a remarkable twist of fate, Noah’s miraculous revival occurred on the very day he was originally due to be born, having entered the world a full month prematurely.
