The Yobe State Government has approved N460.83 million to procure beans for distribution to 1,780 women engaged in small-scale businesses, including akara sellers, as part of an empowerment programme aimed at improving livelihoods across the state.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu on Thursday.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the intervention would provide beneficiaries with 50kg bags of beans alongside cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and other kitchen items already procured by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.
He said a total of 1,780 bags of beans would be distributed to female entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses and improve their economic well-being.
The council also approved N364.48 million for the purchase of 1,000 Yamaha GX 390 grinding machines to be distributed to residents under the state’s empowerment programme.
Bego added that the Executive Council approved projects and services valued at N73.32 billion across key sectors of the state’s economy.
According to him, the approvals include N28.53 billion for agricultural tools and equipment under the 2026 mega agricultural empowerment programme, N23.97 billion for two major road projects, as well as funding for housing, markets and other infrastructure development initiatives.
