The Yobe state government has formalised a 20-year concession agreement with Truck Transit Parks Limited (TTD) for the operation and management of the Potiskum trailer park, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development strategy.
The agreement, which was signed on Friday, represented the state government’s commitment to fostering sustainable infrastructure through private sector partnerships.
The Director-General of the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion (YAPPPIP), Dr. Aliyu Isah Chikaji, described as “critical logistics infrastructure that would improve the movement of goods, enhance road safety, and reduce indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty vehicles.”
He said, “The Potiskum trailer park is a critical logistics infrastructure that would improve the movement of goods, enhance road safety, reduce indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty vehicles, facilitate trade, and stimulate economic activity within Potiskum and beyond.”
He noted that the Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration had created an enabling environment to attract private sector participation in developing and managing strategic public assets.
“As a major commercial hub in Northern Nigeria, Potiskum deserves a modern trailer transit facility that meets international standards and supports efficient transportation,” he added.
The DG noted that the partnership would bring significant private sector investment, professional facility management, improved operational efficiency, job creation, and increased economic opportunities for residents.
The Chief Operations Officer of YAPPPIP, Obinna Nwaogu,
expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, describing the Potiskum facility as “the best we have seen throughout the country.”
According to him, “Our intention is to maximise investment by deploying technology and modern services to ensure that the aims of the government and resources channeled toward that development will ensure profitability.”
He thanked the Yobe state government and YAPPPIP, assuring that the partnership would lead to “bigger things and bigger togetherness.”
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Tourism, and Minerals, Hon. Kaigama Umar, commended Buni for his vision in establishing the large-scale initiative, while urging the concessionaire to strictly adhere to contractual terms.
