A commercial bus driver travelling from Onitsha to Lagos has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of a passenger by deliberately crashing his bus into a stationary truck after a heated argument during the journey.
According to reports, the driver, identified as Ifeanyi Ukwaja of Agbasi City Mass Transit, got into a disagreement with a passenger seated in the front-right seat while approaching Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. Witnesses alleged that the argument became intense, with the driver threatening to deal with the passenger.
The driver allegedly swerved the bus into a parked truck on the passenger’s side, killing the passenger instantly. Several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.
After the incident, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled to his hometown. Following an investigation, police tracked him down and arrested him on July 18 at the Ahiazu Mbaise Police Station in Imo State before transferring him to Ijebu-Ode for further investigation and prosecution.
The incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged act and demanding justice for the deceased.
