The Northwest Development Commission (NWDC) has officially commenced operations in Kano after the state government handed over a fully furnished office complex to serve as its temporary headquarters.
Governor Abba Yusuf, who inaugurated the facility on Tafawa Balewa Road in Kano on Thursday, said the gesture was aimed at ensuring the Commission begins operations without further delay.
Yusuf said Kano State, in collaboration with other governors in the Northwest, would continue to support the Commission in delivering its mandate of driving sustainable development across the region.
He expressed optimism that the NWDC would address key challenges confronting the Northwest through interventions in youth empowerment, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, poverty reduction, environmental sustainability and security.

The governor also announced the donation of two hectares of land for the construction of the Commission’s permanent headquarters.
Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, commended the Kano State Government for providing the temporary headquarters, describing the gesture as a significant milestone in the Commission’s take-off.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appreciated the support, noting that it had removed a major obstacle delaying the commencement of the Commission’s activities.
Momoh reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the NWDC in implementing programmes that will accelerate economic growth and improve the livelihoods of people across the Northwest.
