The Osun State Government has declared Tuesday a work-free day for all categories of public servants to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina, and obtained in Osogbo on Monday. It applies to workers across the state civil service, including employees in local government councils and tertiary institutions.
According to the circular, the decision is intended to give public servants the opportunity to fulfil their civic responsibility by obtaining their voter cards before the forthcoming governorship election and future electoral exercises.
However, workers providing essential services, including healthcare personnel and security officers, were advised to make internal arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery while participating in the PVC collection exercise.
In a separate statement, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, urged public servants as well as residents in the informal sector to collect their voter cards without delay.
He described the upcoming governorship election as a significant moment for the state and encouraged eligible voters to take advantage of the collection period.
“Your vote is your power. Your voter’s card is your licence to the ballot paper and, by extension, the ballot box,” the statement said.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking a second term in office under the platform of the Accord Party, while the All Progressives Congress and 12 other political parties have also nominated candidates for the poll.
