The Ondo State Police Command has arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and three Inspectors after a viral video where the were seen making unprofessional and ethnically insensitive remarks to a member of the public.
Command spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi told journalists in Akure that the officers were apprehended while on stop-and-search duty along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.
He identified them as AP/No. 207454 ASP Elomore Sodayo, AP/No. 332012 Inspector Adefila Adewale, AP/No. 332449 Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and AP/No. 332369 Inspector Odusola Peter.
Abayomi said Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances and determine each officer’s level of culpability. “The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined and professional institution that does not condone any form of misconduct, incivility, or actions capable of undermining public confidence, promoting ethnic division, or bringing the Force into disrepute,” he stated.
He added: “Officers are expected at all times to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism, respect for human dignity, and in strict compliance with the Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures. Any officer found to have acted contrary to the ethics and standards of the Nigeria Police Force will face appropriate disciplinary measures.”
The Command assured the public that the investigation will be guided by fairness, transparency, and accountability, while reaffirming its commitment to professional, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing.
Abayomi urged citizens to remain law-abiding and to report misconduct through established complaint channels.
