Two men lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Monday evening at Olorunsogo, Leme area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The fatal crash occurred at about 5:45 p.m. and involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number AYT 837 QU.
According to eyewitnesses, the Lexus, which was reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the motorcycle. The impact left the motorcyclist with severe head injuries, causing his death at the scene.
The second victim also died as a result of the crash, bringing the total number of fatalities to two. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, told The Leader Nigeria that six persons were involved in the crash,while two lost their lives.
Odunsi ascribed the cause of the crash to speed violation, SPV, underscoring the persistent danger of excessive speed on Nigerian roads.
He said, “FRSC rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m., arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., and responded within five minutes.
“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved.”
He noted that the FRSC rescue personnel evacuated the victims, deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, ans recovered personal belongings including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone.
He quoted the Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, to have commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged all motorists, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours.
CC Ogunjobi emphasized that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services, encouraging members of the public to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies to the FRSC emergency toll free line
