Residents of Bendera village in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, were left stunned after a church-led mission to allegedly rid the area of witchcraft ended dramatically when a large snake attacked the pastor leading the exercise.
According to reports, villagers had invited the preacher after months of complaining about a series of unexplained misfortunes they believed were linked to witchcraft and evil spirits. Watch D Video Here ➤
Residents claimed that many families had been experiencing persistent problems, including unemployment among young people, poverty, broken marriages, and mysterious tragedies, prompting them to seek spiritual intervention.
The pastor, identified as Wycliffe Wanjala from Webuye, reportedly accepted the invitation and began moving from one homestead to another, praying and conducting what residents described as exorcism sessions.
Witnesses said the exercise attracted large crowds as curious locals followed him from home to home.
During the operation, the preacher reportedly came across a massive snake estimated to be nearly 15 feet long.
Believing the reptile was connected to the alleged spiritual disturbances, he attempted to overpower it. However, the snake fought back and bit him during the struggle, sending onlookers into panic.
Residents quickly intervened, killing the snake before rushing the injured pastor to Lumakanda Dispensary for emergency treatment.
Due to the seriousness of the bite, he was later transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where he received further medical care.
Some villagers maintained that the pastor had earlier uncovered several objects they associated with witchcraft from different compounds, reinforcing their belief that supernatural practices had been affecting the community.
One resident described the snake as unusually large, saying he had never seen anything similar except in movies and museums.
The incident sparked widespread discussion across the region, with opinions divided between those who believed the snake was connected to alleged witchcraft and others who viewed it as an ordinary wildlife encounter that happened during the prayers.
