A leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central descended into violence on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after a clash involving party members and government officials left several persons injured, including the Delta State Government’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Protocol, Mr Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The incident occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Uvwie Local Government Area, where APC leaders and stakeholders from across Delta Central had gathered for a leadership meeting aimed at strengthening party unity and consolidating support within the senatorial district.
Eyewitnesses said the violence erupted following a disagreement allegedly linked to events surrounding the recent burial rites of the late Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Protocol to Governor Oborevwori, Mr Sunny Koto, at Okwagba. Although the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, sources said the disagreement quickly degenerated into a free-for-all involving supporters of rival political interests within the party.
Videos circulating on social media captured chaotic scenes as participants scrambled for safety while chairs, tables and bottles were allegedly used as weapons during the confrontation. In one of the videos, Mr Temple was seen attempting to flee from the venue as he was allegedly chased and attacked by some of the participants.

Sources at the conference venue claimed that tensions had been building before the meeting between supporters of the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, and associates of the governor’s SSA on Protocol. The simmering rivalry reportedly escalated into physical violence during the gathering.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that Temple sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
There were also conflicting reports regarding the condition of Commissioner Izeze. While some sources alleged that he sustained injuries in the fracas, others maintained that security operatives quickly intervened and escorted him away from the venue to prevent further escalation.
In a dramatic twist, the Commissioner for Works was later reportedly taken to the Ekpan Police Station for questioning over his alleged connection to the assault on Temple.
Eyewitnesses alleged that Temple was attacked and severely beaten by suspected thugs believed to be linked to the commissioner, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault have yet to be officially established.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had neither confirmed the commissioner’s reported detention nor issued an official statement on the incident. The Delta State Government and the APC were also yet to comment on the violent disruption of the leadership meeting.
Efforts to obtain reactions from Comrade Izeze and Temple proved unsuccessful, as neither could be reached for comments.
