A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after winning election on a platform focused on advancing the rights and legal protection of workers in the adult entertainment industry.
Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, will represent the Norte de Santander region in the Colombian Senate as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 legislative term.
According to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, she secured her seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed electoral list in the March elections.
The Historic Pact emerged as the country’s leading political alliance in the Senate race, winning 22.72 per cent of the vote. Official figures released by Colombia’s National Registry show the coalition received more than 4.4 million votes, earning 25 seats in the upper legislative chamber.
Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult film industry. She has consistently argued that her previous career should not define or limit her ability to serve in public office.
Speaking on the issue, she maintained that individuals who have participated in the country’s sexual economy deserve recognition and legal protection rather than discrimination or social stigma.

In a TikTok video responding to criticism over her election, Omaña questioned why her former profession should prevent her from holding public office.
“¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?” she asked, meaning, “Why can’t a woman who worked in the adult industry seek an elected public office?”
Born in the city of Cúcuta, the newly sworn-in senator has also identified mental health, sexual abuse prevention and victim support among her key legislative priorities.
Her election has attracted significant attention both within Colombia and internationally, coming just months after she and another former adult film performer, Juan Carlos Florián, were appointed to positions within the Ministry of Equality—appointments that generated considerable debate during President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
