This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), ‘Operation FANSAN YAMMA’, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, the operation followed a distress call received in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026, indicating that a large group of terrorists riding about 40 motorcycles had invaded the community and abducted several residents.
The statement said the attackers rounded up numerous villagers with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group remained on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
The joint task force said troops from Sector 2 swiftly responded to the distress call and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival.
It added that the overwhelming firepower forced the attackers to abandon the abducted victims and fled into the surrounding forest.

The military confirmed that all 48 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued during the operation.
However, one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were evacuated to the Kaura Namoda General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Following the rescue operation, troops conducted aggressive patrols across the area to dominate the general environment and prevent further attacks.
The statement added that the theatre command commended the gallantry and professionalism of the troops for the successful operation and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the North-West.
It also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to sustain ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist elements in the region.
