The Lagos State Government has announced that motorists travelling through the Kara Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will face two weeks of partial traffic disruptions as the Federal Ministry of Works commences the replacement of expansion joints.
In a statement issued by the Lagos state ministry of transportation, the project is scheduled to start on July 28, 2026, for a period of two weeks, urging motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.
“To facilitate the repair works, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to provide a safe work zone.

“Moderate traffic is expected around the Fatgbems Turn as some motorists make U-turns or seek alternative routes to avoid delays. However, traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to flow freely with minimal disruption,” the statement read.
The Ministry noted that the rehabilitation work is aimed at improving the safety and durability of the bridge for the benefit of all road users.
They also encouraged road users to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes where possible, and comply with all traffic advisories to minimise delays.
