A female student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has recounted how a soldier pinned her against her bathroom door and told her, “You will like it,” during a night invasion of student hostels by personnel from the Nigerian Army Depot, Osogbo.
The student, identified only as Ademola, shared her story in a video that has since gone viral. She said the incident happened on Monday evening while she was alone in her off-campus room preparing a meal. Watch D Video Here ➤
According to Ademola, she first noticed soldiers moving around the hostel area. The activity seemed to die down, but later, she heard more noise and saw soldiers returning.
They directed flashlights into her room and ordered her to open the door.
“They pointed their torch at my room and asked who was inside. They told me to open the door, and I did,” she recalled.
One of the soldiers asked how many people lived in the room. She told him she shared it with a roommate, but the roommate was not around at the time.
That was when the situation turned violent. The soldier entered her room and pinned her against the bathroom door.
“He pinned me to my bathroom door and told me I would like it. He also warned me not to shout. I kept begging him,” she said .
She said she managed to free herself from his hold and moved toward the entrance of the room, asking him to leave. But instead of leaving, another soldier entered and joined his colleague.
“His colleague came in and also told me to calm down, that I would love it and that I shouldn’t shout,” Ademola alleged.
The situation only ended when she began shouting and screaming at the top of her voice. The two soldiers then left her room, and she locked the door behind them. A fellow student later came to check on her after hearing the commotion.
Ademola’s ordeal was part of a wider attack on students living in hostels near the university. The university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, said more than 20 students have been identified as victims.
According to the university, the soldiers also seized more than 60 mobile phones and other electronic devices from students . Some female students were reportedly stripped and forced to dance unclothed during the incident.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, visited the affected hostels and described the incident as a betrayal of trust.
“We have reported to the management of the depot. It is sad that the Army Depot, located close to the campus, which we felt would give us security cover, could eventually release men who will subject our students to this kind of harrowing experience,” he said.
The Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has condemned the incident, describing the actions as unacceptable and not reflective of the training and character expected of recruits .
In a statement, the Army’s Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, said the Commandant had ordered a full investigation.
“The Nigerian Army exists to protect all citizens, especially the youth, who are the future of the nation. Any conduct that falls short of that mandate is unacceptable,” the statement read.
The Army also confirmed that five soldiers have been arrested in connection with the attack and face dismissal and prosecution if found guilty.
“We therefore give our firm assurance that any personnel found guilty will face the full weight of military law,” the statement added.
