Influencer Angie Marcela Ramírez Vargas, 27, was shot dead by a motorcyclist on Friday night as she waited at traffic lights in her car outside a shopping centre in Pitalito, southern Colombia
An Instagram influencer has been shot dead at point-blank range as she waited at traffic lights in her car.
Angie Marcela Ramírez Vargas, 27, was driving her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Pitalito, a town located in the Huila region in the south of Colombia, when a motorcyclist opened fire on Friday night.
The attack happened when Angie sat in her stationary car near traffic lights outside the Gran Plaza San Antonio shopping centre. Several men on motorcycles drove up to her and allegedly opened fire at the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
She managed to drive several metres before losing control of the vehicle, according to local outlet Caracol.
When the car eventually came to a stop, bystanders and emergency responders rushed to help. Angie was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead as a result of gunshot wounds.
Police immediately launched a manhunt and locked down the area. One suspect, a 48-year-old man, was caught hiding in undergrowth. He is suspected of being the passenger who fired the fatal shots. The second suspect fled on foot along a riverbank and remains at large.
Colonel Javier Alberto Duarte, commander of the Huila Police, said “We set up an operational device and, thanks to the immediate reaction of our officers, we achieved the capture in the act of a 48-year-old man after a wide pursuit.”
The Office of the Attorney General of Colombia and national police are carrying out investigations to identify the remaining suspect and uncover the motive behind the murder. Officers have seized a motorcycle and a firearm they believe was used in the attack.
It remains unclear whether Angie had previously reported any threats or incidents to the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Women, El Tiempo reports.
Since September 2025, Colombia has recorded 621 femicides, according to the Colombian Observatory of Femicides. The NGO says it obtains its figures by cross-referencing official state records with independent media reports and grassroots community reporting.
Angie’s death brings Pitalito’s homicide toll to 46 so far this year, according to Ecos del Combeima. The radio station notes that her killing was the second murder recorded in the municipality on the same day.
